Dr Michael Swan - MBBS (Hons), FRACP

Dr Michael Swan is a consultant Gastroenterologist and Interventional Endoscopist. He is the current Director of Endoscopy at Monash Health.

After graduating from Monash University Medical School with 1st class honours in 1998, Michael trained as a physician and gastroenterologist at Southern Health and Geelong hospitals. Following specialist accreditation, Michael undertook three further fellowship years in clinical endoscopy at Monash Health, Westmead Hospital (Sydney) and St Michael’s Hospital (Toronto, Canada) learning and gaining skills from leading experts in Australia and around the world.

Michael has extensive training in all fields of gastroenterology with expertise in therapeutic endoscopy, screening and early treatment of gastrointestinal cancers and pancreaticobiliary conditions.

Michael frequently performs complex interventional endoscopic procedures including mucosal resection ( EMR, ESD), ERCP, EUS, mucosal ablation (RFA) and POEM for achalasia and other oesophageal dysmotility conditions. 

Michael has published multiple articles on clinical gastroenterology and endoscopy and continues to be actively involved in ongoing research through Monash Health. He is a reviewer for gastroenterology journals, and a regular speaker/chair for national gastroenterology/endoscopy conferences.

Michael was born and raised in the south eastern suburbs of Melbourne and continues to work and live in the area with his partner and 3 daughters.

Urgent patients will be seen in a timely manner and Michael would be more than pleased to discuss any clinical cases with referring medical practitioners.
